Description ~ The Antarctic Mittens Fingerless Mitts
Knit one of a pair of mittens or fingerless mitts, complete with snowflakes or penguins, to learn the following techniques which can be applied to other garments: a cuff with braids (Estonian Vikkel or Swedish Herringbone), a choice of two- or three-color motifs, as well as the gussetless thumb and a picot edge (for the fingerless mitts) or a Norwegian Mitten tip (for the mittens) at the top. The handout has directions for a woman’s medium hand and a large hand.
Materials Needed ~ The Antarctic Mittens Fingerless Mitts
- Yarns: 2 ounces each of five colors (or more-check your stash!) of Sport weight (#2). (Choose a solid-colored, smooth textured, crisp yarn for best results) Suggested: White, black, red, grey, green, light blue, but whatever pleases you is fine.
- Needles: One set US 4 (3.5 mm) DPNs, or the size that yields a gauge of 6 sts/inch
- Notions: Tapestry needle and st markers, sticky notes or magnetic board to aid in reading the chart.
Homework ~ The Antarctic Mittens Fingerless Mitts
